Christianity came to Nigeria in 1842 and effectively from 1846, but Ijebu did not embrace the new faith until late in the century, precisely in the year 1892.
The first Christian message was preached at Italupe, Iwade, Ijebu-Ode in 1892 and christened Saint Saviour's Church, Italupe, Ijebu-Ode. The history of Ijebu-Ode Christian's Cemetery began at the site situated at Isesi, Ijebu-Ode for the burial of Christians demised in Ijebu-Ode in 1905, serving all denominations except the Catholic Church, which had theirs at Odo-Egbo.
The original Church gave birth to the under-listed churches by extension:
First Christian message preached at Italupe, Iwade, Ijebu-Ode.
Burial of Christians commenced at Isesi, Ijebu-Ode.
Dedicated individuals committed to the stewardship and dignified management of the Ijebu-Ode Christian Cemetery.
